Connecting Families welcomes families and supporters of/and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. This is intended to be a safe, relaxing weekend to share stories and common concerns. 

About our speaker:

Rev. Steve Clapp, the president of Christian Community, is the author or coauthor of over thirty books on congregational life including:
  • “Faith Matters: Teenagers, Religion, and Sexuality,” 
  • “Deep and Wide: Hospitality and the Faithful Church,
  • ”The Gift of Sexuality: Empowerment for Religious Teens,” and
  • “Widening the Welcome of Your Church.”
He is currently directing a project on LGBT Rights and the Church which has resulted in the publications:
  • “Silent and Undecided Friends: Motivating Greater LGBT Rights Advocacy Among Clergy and Congregations” and
  • “Taking a New Look: Why Congregations Need LGBT Members.”
He serves as a volunteer minister at Lincolnshire Church of the Brethren in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He and his wife have two young adult children and currently share their home with two energetic, trouble-making cats.
 
About the Location:
We are so pleased to find a very welcoming place for our retreats. Pearlstone Conference and Retreat Center, a Jewish institution which hosts groups from all religions, races and persuasions, is located approx. 30 minutes northwest of Baltimore, Maryland.  In addition to the comfortable housing and meeting facilities, there is an exercise room, lounge areas, hiking trails, organic farm, children’s play and crafts areas. All of Pearlstone’s public and common areas are accessible for individuals with physical disabilities.
